Not Another Law Firm Blog

It’s quite scary, the whole “putting yourself out there” thing, especially for shy people like myself, whose inclination is to not draw attention to themselves. It would be much easier to hide behind the corporate veneer of a law firm, or behind the professional persona and be a lawyer, talk only about legal cases and hand out advice, and not reveal anything personal whatsoever.

But the whole point of stepping away from that world was so that I could do this my way, be personal, friendly and approachable, as well as knowledgeable and helpful. So I could be myself.

What would be the point, if I just did everything the same way as traditional law firms? Have a blog that’s exactly the same as every other law firm? I could fill it with helpful insights and advice, tell you about the latest tax announcements the Chancellor has decreed. Be corporate, professional and (*whispers*) a bit … boring. (Shh, don’t tell anyone I said that).

I like reading blogs about people, getting an insight into their lives and learning from them. All professionals have personal lives too. So this is what this blog is going to be; a bit personal, a bit informative, a bit entertaining and a bit interesting. And I will try to resist the urge to curl up and hide when it comes to revealing anything personal about myself.

Like ripping off the plaster in one go, here’s a bit about me:

I’m Hannah, I live in Nottingham with Husband and Three Children. Child 1 and 2 are both in junior school. Child 3 is one-and-a-bit, and is cross that new cupboard locks have recently appeared, stopping her from flinging cat food pouches across the kitchen and making the kittens think it’s tea-time.

I mainly work from home; my desk is in the lounge, so my workspace is right there in amongst the family space. I’m often getting drinks and snacks for children or refereeing arguments about the Switch whilst also drafting Wills and dealing with probate forms.

My family and friends are the absolute most important things in my world, and I’m blessed to have wonderful people in my life.

I’m also a lawyer, specialising in wills, probate, trusts and tax. It’s more interesting than it sounds, honest. A lot of my work is about people; helping people protect their family; protect their assets for the next generation; making sure the things they love go to the people they love. And dealing with the fallout after someone they love dies, or loses mental capacity.

One of my children has a diagnosis of autism and ADHD, and I’ve made it a mission to help families with SEN children put the right protections in place for their children. More about this in a future blog post.

So welcome to my blog, and my world. I hope I can help you in your world.
